The Creative Process

We all have those few inspirational people who we aspire to be like; Famous artists, musicians, writers, directors. Looking at their work, we have to make a choice whether to be discouraged or inspired. But where do we start? We all want that elusive secret formula of how to do something great or create something of worth, but what is it? What is the creative process? Here are a couple of pointers on how to do all you can with your gift.

Be Inspired – Do you ever have those moments, when your listening to a song, watching a movie or even looking at website, and all of a sudden a rush of ideas and motivation appear? That’s what we call being inspired. Behind any good idea is some great, or simple, inspiration. Nothing is created from scratch but is formed by pulling together everything we see and experience around us, often without even knowing so. When you’re feeling inspired, focus on the moment, take advantage of the ideas, and create.

Be Persistent – Sometimes having a good idea isn’t enough. This is the case for a lot of people; finishing an idea challenged even the greats. U2 (greatest band of all time) is known all over the world for their unforgettable songs, and even they struggle with it. The song ‘Where the streets have no name’ almost didn’t exist because of producers telling the band they will never finish writing the song. After months of writing and rewriting they finally pulled through with, arguably, one of the greatest songs they’ve ever writen. Stay committed to an idea and see it though.

Be Genuine – As cliché as it might sound, it really is true: the biggest mistake you can make is not being true to yourself. People can spot it from a mile away. The thing that makes you different from anyone else in the world is you. YOU have what no one else has. People have a hunger for things that are different, beyond the norm, something that challenges them and takes them somewhere else. We all have the ability to do that, but only some hit success. There is rawness and vulnerability in authenticity, something that speaks louder than any copy can, and that’s what gets people. Be confident in your ability and create what you want to create.

So, live inspired! Be committed to seeing through an idea and stay true to yourself – you will create things you never thought you could.
